TIPS FOR A GREAT MOVE

Moving from one place to another is definitely a big project, but if you plan ahead it doesn’t have to be too hectic. Here are some questions to consider in order to make your next move your best move.

CAN YOU START PACKING EARLY?

When you start early, you have plenty of time to decide what to move to the new place and what will require extra attention.

  • Start by packing your hall closets and other storage areas. These spaces often hold the things that you just haven’t known what to do with until now.
  • As you pack each item, begin to picture where each item will live in your new home (this can also help you get more excited about the process).
  • Decide whether you’d like to host a garage sale, donate your items, or share items that won’t be moving to your new place.

Instead of spending one busy day filling a rental truck, this option allows you to pack and move everything out on your own schedule, greatly reducing the stress of moving day.

CAN YOU ARRANGE FOR EXTRA HELP?

Moving is rarely a one-person job. You’ll either enlist the help of friends and family or you’ll need to call a moving labor company to help you with your endeavor.

When arranging for moving helpers, we recommend:

  • At least 3 people
  • Plan for at least 1 hour per room
  • Make the best use of your helper’s time by having all supplies ready in advance

Buy the moving supplies that you need a few days or even weeks ahead of moving day. When you arrange help and supplies far enough in advance, you can feel confident that you won’t be left to do the heavy lifting on your own.

WILL YOUR NEW PLACE BE READY?

Even if you’re buying a brand new house, there might be some dust and other dirt remaining from construction and others who have been in and out of the house before you.

A day or two before you plan to move in, we recommend going through the house to make sure the following are clean:

  • Bedroom Floors
  • Cabinets and Closets
  • Fridge and Freezers
  • Garage and front porch floor – this helps minimize dirt being tracked in by movers.
  • It’s nice if everything else is clean, but you can get to it later if needed.

ALLOW EXTRA TIME FOR PAINTING & REPAIRS

Older homes may require renovations. When you move with Simple Box, you can keep the Box for as long as you’d like for one reasonable monthly rate. It can also be nice to have extra time to paint, replace flooring, or make other repairs while the area is completely clear. This way you don’t have to deal with construction and moving at the same time.

HOW ARE CONTAINERS FOR MOVING DELIVERED?

Simple Box has a step-by-step process for delivering and moving our containers. All Loaded-Moves are done using 20 foot Moving Containers (up to 33% larger compared to PODS® or PACK-RAT®) and our specialized delivery equipment. See the video below for a quick overview of how it works.

1. CHOOSE DELIVERY AREA
Make sure that the area you want your storage container placed is suitable (level and firm ground, clear of debris, etc). Our delivery trucks need about 70 feet in a straight line for a smooth delivery.

2. BACKING INTO PLACE
If dunnage is required to set the box on, the driver will set these wood blocks down in the correct spots before setting the ends on the ground.

3. SET BOX DOWN GENTLY
Upon arrival, our expert drivers will back into the space where the container is to be placed. The driver will slowly set one end of the container on the ground, pull forward, and gently set the other end of the Box down.

Because we are local, we provide expert ground-level container delivery services at a fair price. We can often provide next-day service, or delivery within a few days to cities and areas within Arizona, Oregon, and Washington.

And with a little more time to arrange it, we can get the storage container you want delivered practically anywhere, whether it’s on an island in the San Juans or acreage in the hills.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR CONTAINER DELIVERY

Our primary goal is to make the Delivery process… simple! This includes limiting your need to prep.

However, we want to avoid bringing a big shipping container to a site only to discover that we can’t place the container on the ground. Therefore, you need to make sure that you have a suitable place in mind for your shipping container before we arrive.

THE IDEAL CONTAINER DELIVERY SITE:
  1. FIRM GROUND
The ground must be flat and firm. If your preferred location is on soft ground or is slightly sloped, we recommend bringing in gravel or using lumber blocks to help make the space more container friendly.

  2. OVERHEAD CLEARANCE
Make sure that there are no low-hanging wires, branches, or anything that might get in the way of delivery. We require at least 15′ of clearance for our trucks to deliver containers.

  3. ROOM TO BACK IN AND PULL FORWARD
There must be room for the truck to safely pull in off the road, back into place, and then pull forward.

A 20ft container requires 70ft of space for the truck, and a 40ft container requires 140ft of space for the truck.

  4. PERMISSION TO DELIVER
Try to plan for delivery on private property. We sometimes place shipping containers on city streets in front of your home, but we’ll only recommend this option for a short period of time. We prefer to place them on private property to avoid any potential issues. If we do place your shipping container on a city street or other public place, it is always the customer’s responsibility to obtain proper permits

Although we can sometimes deliver on short notice, we typically require at least a 3-days notice to deliver a box according to your ideal delivery date.

All appointments depend upon availability, and three days should give us enough time to fit you in during your preferred times.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT CONTAINER DELIVERY

If the delivery area is on a bit of a slope, we recommend getting some gravel or several 12-inch 4×6 treated lumber blocks to help get the Box level and get some air-flow underneath the Box.

We do not recommend railroad ties as they are often uneven and we’ve seen a lot of people injure themselves trying to drag them around. Containers are made to carry all of the weight at the corners, so all you need is a block under the corner (the drivers carry some dunnage on the trucks).

  • 20-FOOT CONTAINER: For a 20 foot container, we need 70 feet for the tilt-deck truck to pull forward in a straight line.

  • 40-FOOT CONTAINER: For a 40 foot container, we need 140 feet for the truck & trailer to pull forward in a straight line.

Our delivery team runs from 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday. We love it when we have at least 3 days notice, but we will do all that we can to get your delivery done on your ideal day(s).

Your Driver will call or text when they are on their way to your place.

There is no need to wait around for us or to take time off work!

You do not need to be there for the delivery or pick-up as long as the delivery area is clear and we have a good idea of where you’d like the Box to be placed.

Some people leave a cone, lawn-chair, or brightly painted rock where they would like the doors to be placed).

We can deliver to most addresses in Washington State, Oregon State, and Arizona State. We can also move customers loaded to other states.

Sometimes for a delivery that is further away from one of our locations, it is more cost-effective for a customer to buy the Box so that they are not paying a round-trip fee to have us come pick up the Box when they are all done.

Feel free to give us a call to confirm whether we can deliver to your specific address and to schedule your delivery date.

Our drivers are amazing, but there are some times when a site just isn’t suitable, or a customer changes their mind.

If a customer’s ideal delivery location is not suitable, the driver will do all that they can to place the Box in an alternate nearby location.

We budget for up to 30 minutes at customer site to load or unload, and secure the container. Any additional standby or transport time will be billed at $100 per hour.

Any towing or repair bills resulting from insufficient site conditions will be sent straight through to the customer or delivery contact.

All Deliveries are subject to our Terms & Conditions.

How much Site Prep is needed for Delivering a Container?

To ensure a safe delivery, please make sure the ground is hard-packed gravel or some other improved surface (asphalt, concrete, etc.), there are no low-hanging wires, and you have enough space for the truck to pull forward from the back of the box.

Should I buy extra Blocks or Dunnage?

If the delivery area is on a bit of a slope, we recommend getting some gravel or several 12-inch 4×6 treated lumber blocks to help get the Box level and get some air-flow underneath the Box.

Can the container be set on railroad ties?

We do not recommend railroad ties as they are often uneven and we’ve seen a lot of people injure themselves trying to drag them around. Containers are made to carry all of the weight at the corners, so all you need is a block under the corner (the drivers carry some dunnage on the trucks).
