At Get Simple Box, we believe that our greatest strength isn’t our containers—it’s our people. Every day, our team shows up with humility, skill, tenacity, kindness, and a commitment to teamwork, making a difference for our customers and each other.
With Valentine’s Day as a reminder to celebrate the people we appreciate most, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible team that makes it all happen. Here are just a few of the things we love about the people behind Get Simple Box.
Table of Contents
A Culture of Humility and Appreciation
One of our core values is Humility. Humility doesn’t mean thinking poorly of yourself—it means thinking highly of others. At Get Simple Box, we define humility as being quick to ask for help, quick to admit when wrong, and quick to recognize the talents and contributions of others.
In many workplaces, appreciation is often overlooked—even though it plays a crucial role in employee satisfaction. A Gallup study found that while 88% of employees say feeling appreciated is important for job satisfaction, only 39% actually feel recognized at work. That gap is something we actively work to close every single day.
That’s why we start each morning with “High-Fives.” It’s a time when our team celebrates the ways co-workers have helped each other or how they’ve used their talents, skills, and effort to make a difference. A simple shoutout or a moment of recognition builds stronger, more motivated teams—something that even Harvard Business Review has found to be true in leadership studies.
We make it a habit each day to celebrate each other’s wins, knowing that no one ultimately succeeds alone.
Skills That Set Us Apart—People and Tools
One of our core values is “Smart x2” which means getting better at the work you do, and getting better at the way you work with others. Having the right skills—both technical and interpersonal—make all the difference. But the reality is, many employees don’t feel equipped for success. In fact, a Gartner study found that 70% of employees say they don’t have the skills they need to do their jobs effectively. That’s a problem for both employees and the businesses that depend on them.
For years, we struggled with this same challenge:
“As someone who started the company without a college degree and very little training, I battled imposter syndrome for a long time. And in all honesty, for over 20 years, we were horrible at training. It wasn’t intentional—we had the heart for it, but not the skill or the system to pass on what we knew. It was the blind leading the blind.” -Ross Black
Everything changed about five years ago when we started learning about the Toyota Production System, Standard Operating Procedures, and especially the concepts from Paul Akers in 2 Second Lean. We began setting aside time every morning for a quick Daily Huddle where we would:
✅ Learn a new skill
✅ Review the previous day
✅ Make improvements together
✅ Train on new processes and procedures
That daily commitment to learning and translating it into action made all the difference. As Jack Welch put it:
“An organization’s ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly, is the ultimate competitive advantage.”
And that’s exactly what we’ve experienced. Companies that invest in training see a 24% higher profit margin than those that don’t—but more importantly, they build teams that are confident, capable, and ready to serve customers well.
Our team is proof that when people have the right training and tools, they can accomplish incredible things.
Tenacity—Getting the Job Done Right
With a giant checkmark in our logo, you can guarantee that we don’t just talk about finishing tasks—we celebrate them. That’s why you’ll see “DONE” or a simple checkmark ✓ pop up across everything we do, from completing a delivery to finishing a pre-trip inspection to wrapping up a marketing project.
Why? Because checking something off isn’t just a notification—it’s a small but powerful celebration of progress.
And the data backs it up: Gallup reports that employees who take ownership of their work are 50% more likely to be engaged and productive. That’s what we aim for—not just getting the job started, but getting it done.
One of our core values is Accountable—”You can count on me.” That mindset runs through our entire team, and it shows up in the way we work. We’ve taken inspiration from Patrick Lencioni’s Working Genius framework, and through team assessments and book clubs, we’ve found a consistent trend:
Our team is strong in the area of Tenacity, which means that we “commit to ensuring that the idea or solution gets completed and that desired results are achieved.”
That’s what our customers value, too. When someone rents a storage container, they don’t care about how fancy the website is or even the price (though that matters). The only thing they truly value is the moment the container arrives—when they can move forward with their project and focus on what they do best.
That’s why we do what we do. Our team doesn’t quit until the job is complete. We own our work from start to finish. As Lean Manufacturing guru Jeffrey K. Liker says:
“Ownership means once I detect a problem I own it. I am responsible for it.”
At Get Simple Box, we take that to heart. No excuses, no passing the buck—just getting the job DONE.
Kindness and Giving Back
“No one has ever become poor by giving.” – Anne Frank
One of the things we love most about our team is how they embrace generosity—not just as an occasional act, but as a way of life. Giving isn’t just something we do at Get Simple Box—it’s part of who we are.
Part of our company Mission Statement is to “Make a Profit and use it to Grow Wisely and Give Generously.” That means running our business in a way that creates resources to share and building a culture where generosity is second nature. The impact is undeniable—studies show that employees who work for companies with a strong culture of giving back are 2.3 times more likely to be engaged in their work.
Ross Black, Founder and CEO of Get Simple Box, explains:
“Years ago, I realized that everything I have is a gift from God. I didn’t earn it, and I don’t deserve it—I’m just a steward of it. Once I understood that, giving became so much easier.”
That same mindset is woven into our team culture. We love how our team regularly takes on big giving projects together, such as:
✅ Caring for orphans and widows through Kidstown, New Generation Haiti, and Mt. of Olives Children’s Village in Mexico.
✅ Supporting Veterans and Gold Star Families who have sacrificed so much.
✅ Putting together Boxes of Love for people in need in our local communities.
Sometimes, writing a check is the easiest way to give, but we are also committed to giving our time and talent. That’s what makes generosity at Get Simple Box more than a policy—it’s who we are. And we love that about our team.
True Teamwork—Working Together, Winning Together
“Employees who feel connected to their team are twice as likely to stay at their company.” – Harvard Business Review
One of the things we love most about our team is that they truly stick together. Some of our team members have been with us for over 20 years, and the average team member has been at Get Simple Box for more than five years. That represents thousands of container deliveries, hundreds of celebrations, and countless moments of learning, growth, and shared success.
That’s because we don’t just call them employees—we call them team members. We operate like a relay team or a football team, where everyone has a role to play, and we trust each other to get the job done right.
It all starts with:
🏆 Customer Service Team – They answer the phone with kindness, ask great questions, and help customers choose their own container. See available containers.
🚛 Delivery Team – They prepare a clean container, load it with care, confirm placement with the customer, and safely transport and deliver the container. Learn more about container delivery.
📊 Admin Team – They confirm payment, update the inventory list, place new orders, and keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.
💡 Leadership Team – They answer questions, identify and eliminate waste, reinforce our mission/vision/values, and keep the entire team aligned and improving.
Everything happens as a team—and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
One of the ways we foster teamwork is by staying connected, even across multiple locations. We regularly share in WhatsApp groups, celebrating high fives, asking questions, offering quick answers, and sharing improvement ideas from one location that can be applied across all others. Visit a storage location nearby.
Even though our team is spread across Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, and more franchise locations coming soon, we stay connected by sharing best practices daily. We also come together on the first Tuesday of every month for an All-Team Meeting, where we encourage, inspire, learn, and celebrate wins and goals accomplished.
At Get Simple Box, teamwork isn’t just a nice idea—it’s how we operate every single day. And that’s one of the many reasons why we love our team.
We Love Our Team
At Get Simple Box, we believe that success isn’t about what we own—it’s about what we do. And what we do wouldn’t be possible without the incredible team that shows up every day with humility, skill, tenacity, kindness, and a commitment to teamwork.
We love the way our team:
✅ Celebrates each other’s contributions and shares “High-Fives” daily.
✅ Learns and grows together, improving skills through training and hands-on experience.
✅ Takes ownership and follows through, ensuring that every job is marked ✓ DONE.
✅ Gives generously, making a difference for orphans, widows, veterans, and people in need.
✅ Works as one, collaborating across locations and staying connected through WhatsApp, team meetings, and shared best practices.
Ross Black, Founder and CEO of Get Simple Box, shares his perspective on leadership:
“For me personally, leading this team is an honor. I know that I’m part of a relay race, holding the baton for a time, but one day I’ll pass it on to the next runner. The real measure of success isn’t in what we build, but in the people we invest in.”
So, to everyone on the Get Simple Box team—thank you. Your hard work, kindness, and dedication make all the difference.
💙 We love our team, and we wouldn’t want to do this with anyone else.
