This Christmas, Get Simple Box is stepping up to serve those in need by partnering with the Mount of Olives Children’s Village. Our mission is to make a tangible difference in the lives of children, caregivers, and families in the region—delivering hope and kindness alongside containers.
Why We Got Involved
Our connection with Mount of Olives Children’s Village began many years ago when members of our team visited the area to help provide basic medical and dental assistance. What we saw left a lasting impression: children separated from their families, desperately in need of stability and care.
“This is a serious commitment,” said Dave Black, co-owner of Get Simple Box. “If we run out of funding for a medical clinic, we can close it and try again another year. But if we built a home for these children and then stopped supporting, shutting down the home is not an option. These children need stability, and that will require a long-term commitment from us.”
A Personal Connection
Over the years, we’ve seen firsthand the challenges faced by families in the Uruapan area. One story that stands out is that of Sarah, a hardworking mother who has faced incredible adversity. For years, Sarah lived in a broken-down bus on the edge of a farm while caring for her son, Jesus, who has special needs. Day after day, she juggled working long hours in the fields with the constant care her son requires, running back and forth to check on him while tending to the land.
“Sarah’s strength and love for her children have always inspired me,” said Ross Black, owner of Get Simple Box. “She is one of the most beautiful people I have ever met, never giving up, even in the most difficult circumstances.”
Thanks to the support of Mount of Olives and the dedication of people in the community, Sarah’s situation has dramatically improved. She has been able to move into a modest home, providing a safe and stable environment for her family. Even more remarkable, one of her sons recently graduated from college with a nursing degree, giving their family a brighter future.
Stories like Sarah’s remind us why this work is so important. By providing stability and care, we’re not just meeting immediate needs—we’re helping families build a path to long-term success and hope.

- An education from Kindergarten through University
- Life skills training
- Opportunities to succeed beyond the village’s doors

Current Needs at Mount of Olives
The Children’s Village is always working to provide for the children and the community. One immediate need is providing warmer winter clothing for those who are new to the area. As Mount of Olives Director Bill Roosma shared, “Many of the migrant workers have no warm clothing. People don’t realize just how cold it can get here in the winter. For just $10, we can provide a warm wool blanket or jacket and gloves.”
Another practical need is repairing the dirt road leading to the village. This road frequently washes out, leaving vehicles stuck and forcing people to walk long distances through mud to reach their homes.
In addition to the driveway repair, the village has basic, ongoing needs for items such as:
- Shampoo
- Bar soap or body wash
- Loofah bath sponges or washcloths
- Combs and hairbrushes
- Deodorant (boys and girls)
- Feminine hygiene products
- Baby wipes
- Disposable diapers (6 months and larger sizes)
- Laundry detergent
- Clothes softener
- Toilet paper
- Paper towels
- Dish soap
- Towels
- Blankets
- Fleece pullovers
- Sweats/stretch pants
You can find more ways to help on the Ongoing Needs page.
How We’re Helping
This December, we’ve committed to several initiatives to serve the Mount of Olives Children’s Village and the surrounding community:
- $10 Donations Per Delivery: For every customer-paying delivery this month, we’re donating $10 to provide blankets and winter clothing for families.
- Boxes of Love: We’re assembling care packages for houseparents—six couples and two single caregivers—filled with warm clothing, self-care items, and small gifts to show our appreciation for their tireless work.
- Driveway Repair Donation: We’re donating $2,000 to repair the road to the Children’s Village, ensuring safer, easier access for residents and visitors alike.
“We rely on good roads to deliver containers, so we understand how important safe, reliable access is,” explains Ross Black. “This driveway repair is a simple, tangible way we can help improve daily life for everyone at the Children’s Village.”
Looking Ahead
We’re also planning a mission trip to Uruapan next August, where our team will have the chance to:
- Help at the Children’s Village
- Build small homes (“casitas”) for families
- Distribute humanitarian aid to those in need
This trip is just one part of our continued commitment to serving our neighbors in Mexico. Learn more about getting involved at Beyond Our Doors.
How You Can Get Involved
As a storage franchise with a core value of “Kindness,” we believe that people matter more than things. “Kindness isn’t just about thinking nice thoughts—it’s about taking action to do nice things,” Ross explains. “This Christmas, we have an opportunity to help our neighbors to the south in a way that reflects who we are as a company.”
There are several ways to join us in supporting the Mount of Olives Children’s Village:
- Book a Storage Container Delivery — Every order in December helps us give back.
- Reach Out — Contact us if you’d like to contribute or learn more.
- Support Mount of Olives — Consider sponsorship or planning a trip to participate in the work.
Whether through donations, spreading the word, or volunteering, your involvement can make a lasting impact. Together, we can bring hope, stability, and kindness to those who need it most.
Thank you for helping us give back!
