Container Exterior Walls
The exterior walls of a 40-foot Refrigerated Shipping Container are made of smooth metal (not corrugated) covering an insulated frame.
Container Interior
The interior walls of a 40-foot Refrigerated Shipping Container are insulated with thick 4″ closed-cell foam (R-value = 28+) and lined with stainless steel sheeting.
Roof and Floor
The floors of a 40-foot Refrigerated Shipping Container are a raised T-grid floor to maximize circulation.
Container Condition Notes
A working 40-foot Refrigerated Container is often a used container with a working Carrier Thinline refrigeration unit that has been “pre-tripped.” So it is fully operational, although it has had many hours of use and has made many trips around the world. Because it is used, it is sold as-is, where-is, with no warranty or claims of it’s life expectancy.
FAQ
How do Refrigerated Containers work?
All Reefer Containers are manufactured to have a high level of insulation and to be as air-tight as possible so that a cooling unit can maintain the desired temperature (freezing or cooling) as efficiently as possible. Unlike a house or building, they seal up very tight.
What is the temperature inside a Refrigerated Container?
The container is designed to hold deep frozen, frozen and chilled cargo in the range -25C to +25C with external temperatures ranging from -40C to +50C and is suitable to be subjected to severe thermal shock. The combination of thick Polystyrene Foam Insulation and Air-tight door seals ensures optimum insulation.
What are the Power or Delivery Requirements
Always check with your local Electrician or Refrigeration specialist prior to ordering. 220v three phase power is common for these units, but power requirements may vary by container or by location.
How Secure is a 40-foot Refrigerated Container?
We can install a Lockbox on the Cargo doors of your Refrigerated Cargo Container to prevent a padlock from being tampered with.
What if I want an Insulated Container and don't need the Refrigeration Unit?
We sometimes offer “non-working” Reefer Containers that provide excellent insulation, without the refrigeration unit. We can also install Spray Foam insulation or provide 2×4 framing and either fiberglass batts or rigid insulation.
